In this digital age, QR (Quick Response) codes have become useful tools for sharing information quickly and efficiently. They offer a convenient way to encode various types of data, including URLs, allowing users to access websites and online content from print sources with a simple scan with their smartphone. For race organizers, this is an excellent way to give participants a direct link to the registration page – especially for those last-minute signups on race day.

Create a few posters with your Registration QR code, and you can refer late signups to these posters while you’re busy handling everything else that needs to be done on site.

How to create QR codes from your Registration URL:

1. Choose a QR Code Generator

There are numerous QR code generator tools available online, both free and paid. Choose one that suits your needs and preferences.

Popular options include

2. Input Your URL

Once you’ve selected a QR code generator tool, navigate to the URL input section.

Paste or type the URL of your registration page into the provided field.

3. Generate the QR Code:

After inputting the URL, the QR code generator will automatically create a QR code based on the provided link. Some generators may offer customization options such as color selection and design enhancements. Feel free to adjust these settings according to your preferences.

4. Download or Save the QR Code:

Once the QR code is generated, you’ll typically have the option to download or save it to your device.Choose the appropriate file format (e.g., PNG, JPEG) and save the QR code to a location where you can easily access it later.

5. Test the QR Code:

Before distributing or using the QR code, it’s essential to test it to ensure it works correctly.

Use a QR code scanner app on your smartphone or tablet to scan the code. It should promptly redirect you to the URL of your race registration page.

6. Create a poster and share it on race day:

Now you can create a simple page in your favorite design tool, such as Canva, where you write something like “Race Day signups” and copy your QR code below. Add your race’s colors/graphic profile and perhaps your logo. Print your posters and put them up around your arena – good spots can be the parking lot, the speaker booth, the bib distribution booths and by the entrance to the arena.

Good luck on race day! Hope this guide helps you make your event a little bit smoother 🙂 If you need more tips on how to nail your race, visit the “How to start a Race” section in the Organizer Learning Center.
